My concept is about other dimensions. I started out researching thoughts and theories about possible unknown dimen- sions, other than our own, from various scientists. I found out about the LHC, or Large Hadron Collider, which CERN (Euro- pean Organization for Nuclear Research) is working on. The present, biggest collider in the world is the RHIC (Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider) and is situated in the Brookhaven laboratory, Uptown, New York. Many theorists and scientists believed that if the RHIC would be fully acceler- ated it could possibly create a black hole or even a gate into another dimension. In 2005, the BBC featured a story about the Romanian scientist Horaţiu Năstase, who works at Brookhaven, who accidentally created a „ball of fire“ which bears eery similarities to a black hole. He created the fireball by fully powering the accelerator. The construction of the LHC are near to an end and it will be turned on in may 2008. The LHC is 7 times larger than the RHIC. The LHC’s main goal is to find the theory- particle „Higgs boson“, which is supposed to be the „thing“ that makes everything a mass. By finding the particle, the scien- tists can get as close to the „big bang“ as possible. Other fields of exploration that the scientists are hoping to venture into include creating a portal into other dimensions, time traveling and a lot more. During this research I stumbled upon so called „dream-dimensions“; imagined and made up worlds, created by writers and other imaginative individuals. The dreamworlds are often right in front of us, without us knowing. I looked more into dreamworlds and finally bumped into the dreamworld Oz (Lyman Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz). The Kansas native Dorothy literally got sucked into a hurricane which carried her into Oz. „As a matter of fact“, Oz really was in the Nevada desert, hidden from the human eye. Oz has 5 counties, each county has it’s own color scheme (Purple, yellow, red, blue and green) all the surroundings and all inhabitants of each county are in the same color as the county they’re in. My piece uses the same characteristics and rules as Oz; color-coded „counties“, magic and last but not least a dream-dimension which is hidden in our own environment.
